Avec un parcours pro où cette « fonceuse », comme elle se définit, a cherché à trouver du sens dans son travail et au sein de l’entreprise où elle évolue.

Manuela, if we had to summarize your career, we would talk about commitment?
J’ai déjà eu la chance, pour débuter, de ne pas avoir à envoyer de CV ! Le directeur d’un lycée hôtelier s’est rapproché de mon BTS comptabilité, à Strasbourg, pour trouver un jeune qui pourrait prendre la gestion de son économat. Ensuite, j’ai intégré les Gîtes de France, où je me suis ouverte à la relation avec les clients et au commercial, avant de vivre une première expérience dans la durée, au sein d’un cabinet comptable. Cette période de 8 ans a réellement été fondatrice. L’occasion de balayer tous les types de sociétés, de clients, de fiscalité. C’était une super école avec un patron qui m’a pris sous son aile avec beaucoup de bienveillance. Par la suite, j’ai travaillé dans quelques autres entreprises alsaciennes mais sans vraiment trouver « chaussure à mon pied ». A ce moment-là, j’étais toujours à l’écoute du marché, avec des fondamentaux à respecter : un job épanouissant, à responsabilités, avec une dimension « familiale ».
I was lucky enough to start out without having to send a CV! The director of a hotel school approached my BTS in accounting, in Strasbourg, to find a young person who could take over the management of its bursar's office. Then I joined Gîtes de France, where I learned about customer relations and sales, before having my first long-term experience in an accounting firm. This 8-year period was really a seminal experience. It gave me the opportunity to work with all types of companies, clients and tax systems. It was a great school with a boss who took me under his wing with a lot of benevolence. Afterwards, I worked in a few other Alsatian companies but without really finding the right job. At that time, I was still listening to the market, with the fundamentals to be respected: a fulfilling job, with responsibilities, with a "family" dimension.
Et compatible avec votre seconde vie de femme très active ?
And compatible with your second life as a very active woman?
Effectivement car, depuis 2014, j’ai intégré le conseil municipal de mon village d’Alteckendorf. Un 1er mandat en tant que 3ème adjointe, un second en 1ère adjointe aux finances et à la petite enfance. Il fallait donc que mon job ne soit pas trop éloigné de mon domicile pour me permettre cette « double vie », très prenante. Le poste qui était proposé par Ekkia - responsable comptabilité clients B2B - cochait toutes les cases. J’ai donc sauté le pas et je ne le regrette pas. Je suis en lien permanent avec nos revendeurs, j’assure aussi le suivi de la partie ecommerce, et je travaille avec mon binôme Patrice, chargé de la partie B2C. Je jongle en permanence entre français, anglais et allemand, je ne m’ennuie jamais.
Yes, because in 2014 I joined the municipal council of my village of Alteckendorf. A first mandate as 3rd deputy, a second as 1st deputy for finance and early childhood. So my job had to be not too far from my home to allow me this "double life", which is very demanding. The job that EKKIA offered - B2B accounts manager - ticked all the boxes. So I took the plunge and I don't regret it. I am in permanent contact with our resellers, I also monitor the ecommerce part, and I work with my partner Patrice, who is in charge of the B2C part. I'm constantly juggling French, English and German, so I'm never bored.
Comment la place des femmes a-t-elle évolué depuis votre première expérience professionnelle ?
How has the role of women changed since your first professional experience?
Lorsque j’ai débuté ma vie active, les mentalités n’avaient pas beaucoup évolué. Désormais, les femmes font des études plus longues, les papas peuvent prendre des congés parentaux. C’est chez les recruteurs que ça doit évoluer maintenant. Lors des entretiens d’embauche que j’ai suivis, je voyais dans leur regard qu’ils se disaient : « attention, elle est en âge d’avoir des enfants ». Par ailleurs, je pense que le gros point d’effort d’une manière générale en entreprise, c’est l’égalité salariale. A job égal, salaire égal. La journée internationale des droits des femmes, c’est bien, mais il faudrait que ce soit 365 jours par an.
When I started my working life, attitudes had not changed much. Nowadays, women study longer, fathers can take parental leave. It's the recruiters who have to change now. During the job interviews I attended, I could see in their eyes that they were saying to themselves: "Be careful, she is old enough to have children". Furthermore, I think that the main point of effort in general in companies is equal pay. Equal pay for equal jobs. International Women's Rights Day is good, but it should be 365 days a year.
Les femmes qui vous ont inspirées ?
Women who have inspired you?
La première qui me vient à l’esprit, c’est Simone Veil. Un destin incroyable et une femme animée d’une énergie qui force le respect. Il en fallait du courage et du caractère, lors du débat de dépénalisation de l’IVG, pour résister aux vents contraires. J’ai aussi beaucoup d’admiration pour les équipes féminines de sports co qui doivent toujours faire plus que les hommes, avec une exposition, des moyens, des salaires qui ne sont pas comparables. D’une manière plus personnelle, ma grand-mère a beaucoup compté. Elle m’a élevée, pendant que mes parents faisaient les marchés, et m’a appris les valeurs de la vie, le sens de la famille, l’éducation, la nécessité de toujours penser aux autres.
The first one that comes to mind is Simone Veil. An incredible destiny and a woman with an energy that commands respect. It took courage and character during the debate on the decriminalisation of abortion to stand up to the opposing winds. I also have a lot of admiration for the women's co-sports teams who always have to do more than the men, with exposure, resources and salaries that are not comparable. On a more personal level, my grandmother has been very important. She brought me up, while my parents went to the markets, and taught me the values of life, the meaning of family, education, the need to always think of others.
Dans un mois, vous êtes élue présidente de la république. Vos premières mesures pour les femmes ?
In a month's time, you will be elected President of the Republic. What are your first measures for women?
Je m’intéresserais prioritairement à deux sujets : la pénibilité au travail - certains postes comme en usine sont usants et justifient une retraite anticipée - et la protection des femmes face aux violences conjugales.
I would focus on two subjects: the hardship of work - some jobs, such as in factories, are exhausting and justify early retirement - and the protection of women against domestic violence.
