Protective headgear : the new CE standards

CSO "ultimate" helmet
réf. 911 262

The European directive for “Individual Protection Equipment” of 1989, taken in the French law, decree
N° 92-765 of 29th July, 1992, made it mandatory for all importers or manufacturers who offer individual protection equipment, to sell products with the CE stamp only, and this since the 1st July, 1996 . To obtain the CE stamp, products have to be tested by one of the approved European laboratory.
Compared to the former riding hats with a plastic shell and an elastic chin strap, CE products feature:
• First, they come with a solid harness to avoid any risk of loosing the helmet.
• Second, they have a soft visor or no visor at all to avoid nose fractures in case the hat slides down.
• Third and most important point compared to the former models, they must have a polystyrene crown or any other thick shock proof material, absorbent enough to pass the shock absorbing tests.
Riding hats without these features are considered as traditional hats and not as head protection.
All our head protection gear is in compliance with CE standards. The tests passed are equivalent to EN1384 norm.
